Africa Center for School Leadership

Proffesor Ann Lopez was invited to attend the launch of the Africa Centre for School Leadership in Kigali Rwanda. The launch was part of the work VVOB – education in Development Rwanda. As a way of igniting and promoting school leadership and promote school leadership in improving the quality of education in Africa, the government of Rwanda in collaboration with VVOB- Education for development set up an Africa Center for School Leadership (ASCL), with the aim of the center is to support African governments and governmental agencies in the education sector to build supportive school leadership systems, with the objectives of improving teaching and in turn learning outcomes. Professor Ann Lopez was one of the key speakers who shared the research findings from the SLAC SHRCC-funded project in Kenya, Rwanda, Jamaica and GTA. in her sharing vital issues that emerged were the need to center research on understanding school leadership development approaches, using Ubuntu frameworks in Africa context and educational decolonization and critical. The launch and conference were attended by several scholars working in the African context. Proffesor Lopez in her statement at the event stated that “Ubuntu theorizing and practice offers school leaders in the global south and the continent of Africa a workable frameworks, and opens up possibilities for transformative action and approaches to school leadership”.
