Professor Ann Lopez – Principal Investigator

Professor. Ann E. Lopez is a professor of educational leadership and policy in the Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. She is the Director of the Center for Leadership and Diversity and Provostial Advisor, Access Programs. Dr. Lopez’s research and teaching focuses on antiracist education, school leadership in different contexts, decolonizing and socially just leadership, issues of equity and system change. She has conducted research with school principals in Jamaica, Kenya and the Greater Toronto Area. Dr. Lopez has published several articles and written 5 books, including her most recent book entitled Decolonizing Educational Leadership: Alternative Approach to Leading Schools. Dr. Lopez is the 2020 Award for Distinguished Contributions to Teaching at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. 2022 JUS Memorial Human Rights Prize – Influential Leader.

Dr. Carmel Roofe

Dr. Carmel Roofe is a Senior Lecturer in Curriculum and Instruction in the School of Education at The University of the West Indies, Mona, where she is a Deputy Dean and the programme coordinator for master and doctoral programmes in Curriculum Studies. Her career in teaching spans teaching in secondary schools and training initial and in-service teachers at the Higher Education level. She has served as a consultant with the World Bank and the Ministry of Education, Jamaica, and as a resource person for the Commonwealth of Learning. She is the co-founder and current president of the Caribbean Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies. She has authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed journal articles, special issue journals, books and book chapters. Recent co-authored book publications include Intercultural studies in the curriculum: Theory, policy and practice (Palgrave Macmillan), SDG 4 – Quality education: Inclusivity, equity and lifelong learning for all (Emerald publishing), and A cross-cultural consideration of teacher leaders’ narratives of power, agency and school culture: England, Jamaica and the United States (Myers Education Press). Dr. Roofe is also a research fellow at the University of Huddersfield.

Dr. Peter rugano

Dr. Peter Rugano completed taught physics in Kenyan high schools for 15 years before obtaining his Ph.D. in Science Education from Syracuse University in NY. He is currently a teacher educator at the University of Embu. His current focus is on disrupting strongly held conceptions of teaching and learning. Dr. Rugano believes that prospective teachers must construct, from their personal experiences, their own conception of learning and start to build a teaching philosophy around the optimization of learning. Often such philosophies and emerging conceptions of teaching and learning do not fall into the conventional or established schema of knowledge bases. It is for this reason that Dr. Rugano has started to look towards contextualizing news ways of knowing about teacher training. His paper “Towards a Liberated Pedagogy in Low Resource and Emerging Contexts: Educating Teacher Candidates for 21st Century Classrooms in Kenya” highlights some of his experiences as a teacher educator in Kenya.

Dr. Lucy Effeh Attom

Dr. Lucy Effeh Attom associate professor, holds a PhD, M.phil. and B.Ed in Social Studies from the University of Education, Winneba. She is the Associate Professor of Social Studies, and the dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Education, before that she held the position of Head of Department for Social Sciences for three years. Dr. Attom’s leadership experience as an educator started in 1998, after completing Our Lady of Grace (OLA) Teaching College, Cape Coast. She was an Expert Reviewer and a Panel Member of the Social Studies team from 2019- 2021 working for the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, Ministry of Education, Ghana.

Associates

Dean Mayamba Sitali

Dean. Sitali Mayamba is the Dean, of the School of Education at Kwame Nkrumah University in Kabwe, Zambia. He is a lecturer and researcher of Physical Education and Sport. Dean Sitali is a Sports Administration and Management expert, an elected member of the Institute of Directors of Zambia on 28th February 2019, and a consultant and National Course Director for the National Olympic Committee of Zambia. He is Vice Chairperson of the National Olympic Academy, a Chairperson and Patron of the Kabwe Teqball and Kwame Nkrumah University Olympic Values Education Programme Clubs respectively. He has worked as a classroom teacher ins some the remote places, Dean Mayamba worked as a Monitoring and evaluation officer, as a Programmes manager at the Olympic Youth Development Centre, Zambia, His recent work focuses on collaborative research with the University of East London, University of Botswana and with Loughborough University London in different projects. Dean Sitali is a holder of an MSc. Olympic Studies, Olympic Education, Organisation and Management of the University of Peloponnese, he holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Zambia, Cert. Teacher education.

Dr. Mungai Njoroge John

Dr. Mungai Njoroge has 19 years of professional teaching experience, with 11 years of service in the professional development of teachers and 8 years in teaching chemistry and mathematics in secondary schools. He holds a Ph.D. in Teaching and Curriculum from Syracuse University, USA. Dr. Njoroge is passionate about the nexus between the quality of teacher education and students’ access to quality education – a theme that he advances in his research activities, publications, and conference presentations. Dr. Njoroge is currently the Coordinator Research & Development Knowledge Department (R&D KM) at the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA).

Dr. Sr. Astridah Mwamba musonda (phd)

Dr. Sr. Astridah Mwamba Musonda has a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration and Planning from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa – Nairobi, Kenya. Masters of Arts in Educational Administration at University of Leeds United Kingdom (UK).
A Religious Sister in the Congregation of the Sisters of the Child Jesus. Lecturer and supervisor of research reports for undergraduate and Dissertations for postgraduate students. Internal examiner for Kwame Nkrumah University (KNU) postgraduate students, External Examiner for Zambia Catholic University (ZCU) and Mulungushi University. Currently under the Department of Education and Policy studies in the School of Education at Kwame Nkrumah University in Zambia. A recipient of the 1st of May 2022 Award of the most dedicated to duty and hard working in the school of education on the Zambian Federation of Employers Labour Day Celebrations. Postgraduate studies courses taught: Educational Theories and Practice of Leadership Skills and Educational Planning for school teachers and Administrators. Her current research focuses on the Role of Leadership Training in Improving Head teachers’ Professional Competencies and Job Satisfaction in Kabwe District, Central Province of Zambia, in view of opening a Centre for Leadership and Management across contexts with the aim of training those who may be in leadership positions. Her other interest is investigating the effectiveness of student involvement in decision–making in university leadership coupled with gender equity issues, curriculum design and quality matters, policy studies and innovations. She has published more than ten peer-reviewed international Articles. She has participated in leadership and professional meetings, international academic conferences, and workshops. Also, she has participated in various community services targeting vulnerable children, the sick and old people in vulnerable communities.

Research Assistants

Dr. Fatema Hossain

Dr. Fatema Hossain has a doctorate in the Educational Leadership and Policy program at OISE, University of Toronto. Her doctoral research focused on the South Asian women graduate students’ research and knowledge mobilization process. She is currently working as a Research Assistant at OISE and as a volunteer at the Centre for Leadership & Diversity, learning the process of promoting diversity, equity, social justice, and democracy in
education.

Dinah ampoMah

Dinah Ampomah is a Ph.D. student at the University of Education Winneba in the department of Social Studies. Her research area focus on environmental issues and Gender issues. Dinah has a BA in Social Studies and a Masters of Philosophy in Social Studies Education at the University of Education, Winneba. Currently an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba.

Philip Okai Mensah

Philip Okai Mensah is a native of Akim- Danso in the Eastern Region of Ghana and the third of seven siblings. Prior to his pursuit of tertiary education, he attended Ebenezer Senior High School in Dansoman, Accra-Ghana from 2005 to 2008. He then gained admission to pursue B. A Social Studies programme at the University of Education, Winneba-Ghana from September 2013 to July 2017. He has a Master of Philosophy in Social Studies.

Philip Okai Mensah served as a Teaching Assistant during his National Service in 2017 and as a Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant in 2019 all in the Department of Social Studies Education, UEW. Currently, he is an Assistant Lecturer and a Ph.D. Candidate in the same department.
